CORRECTION OF BILATERAL CLEFT LIP WITH MODIFIED MANCHESTER METHOD

Abstract
The lips combined with nose, focusing structure which located on the central part of face, are kept in important position functionally and cosmetically. Bilateral cleft lips occupy about 10-15 % in all congenital cleft lips and because of short columella and non-protruded nasal tip, they appear severe deformities whose characteristics are distributed nostril and prominent premaxilla. We have been tried many procedures which were classified into straight-line closure such as Veau, Rose-Thompson, Cronin and Manchester method and various flap methods as Skoog, Tennison and Millard method for the correction of bilateral cleft lips. But, There were some advantages and problems each other.
We have experienced 25 cases of one-stage closure of bilateral cleft lips by Modified Manchester method, which has improved prominent premaxilla, size of the prolabium with creating adequate central tubercle and obtained consistently a good functional and cosmetic results, from 1974 to 1987. We describe the experience with a review of literatures.
